Wooden doors owe their popularity to the beauty and elegance that they bring. Unlike aluminium and UPVC doors they are also much easier and flexible to design and have the advantage that they can be painted in any colour and polished in any shade, which is a big advantage if it's important to you that your doors fit in with the rest of the house.
On a practical level wooden frames are not affected by temperature and with wood being a natural insulator of heat, wooden doors are a great option for energy efficiency. As well as thermal insulation, wood also provides noise insulation. Wood is low maintenance and does not rust and if made with good quality timber has a long lifespan.
Some of the disadvantages are that the frames absorb moisture which can lead to rotting and can also become infested with insects. A good quality wooden timber door is a more expensive option compared to aluminium and UPVC frames but will serve you a lifetime, whereas cheaper wood can become weak and eventually corrode with time.
